Classroom Expectations 2011-12

1. Treat others with respect and courtesy. Always remember your manners.

2. Attend to personal matters before or after class. Passes will be given for emergencies only and comp time will be required.

3. Be prompt! Be in your assigned seat before the tardy bell rings.

4. Come to class prepared to work. Bring your book(s), binder w/ loose leaf paper, a sharpened pencil or a black or blue pen, and a highlighter.

5. Remain quiet, attentive and on task during class. Raise your hand if you wish to ask a question, answer a question, or make a comment about the lesson. Do not put your head down on your desk!

6. Remain seated during class. Dispose of waste before or after class.

7. Follow directions given for assignments.
8. Refrain from throwing any object in the classroom.
9. Avoid destroying/defacing the property of the school, the teacher and the other students.

10. Avoid eating, drinking, or chewing gum during class.

Students who do not meet the above expectations will be assigned detention and/or face consequences as described in the PLAS Student/Parent Handbook Section VII on Disciplinary Policies.

*Continued disruptive or disrespectful behavior is considered a major disciplinary offense and may result in suspension or expulsion. For more information see PLAS Student/Parent Handbook Section VII D.
  • Be honest! Cheating on tests or other assignments will result in a grade of zero. Talking during a test will be considered cheating.
  • Be prompt! Turn in assigned work on the due date. Failure to do so may result in a grade of zero.
  • Be conscientious! Failing to make up missed assignments within three school days will result in a grade of zero. No missed work can be made up during class time; therefore, make arrangements to come in before or after school.
Supplies

The Language Arts curriculum includes vocabulary, grammar, and writing. In an effort to encourage my middle school students to get organized, I have asked that each student maintain a binder with three dividers labeled as such. The binder should also contain pockets in which to keep hand outs. I also require students to bring a pencil or a pen with black or blue ink and a highlighter.

Grading Policy
  • Test Grades 50% Vocabulary and Language Tests, Major Writing Assignments
  • Classwork Grades 25% Classwork Exercises and Quizzes
  • Homework Grades 15% Homework
  • Participation 10% DLP, Binder, Supplies, Book Check
  • Homework and assignment deadlines will be posted on my blog. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me at school by phone 566-2023 or e-mail kdillard@pikelib.com.
